I find the diplomatic path tricky. There seems to be a clash between idealism and pragmatism. The lukewarmness from the Malawi government is resonant with its crisis of leadership in its democratic foreign policy which is overly naive, reactive and unfruitful. On the part of Tanzania, the aggressiveness of a survivor seems to crowd out the possibilities of any meaningful diplomatic settlement. Diplomacy will only work when both parties are committed to the process and are convinced that through dialogue, a negotiated outcome is possible. But since both sides are agitating for a zero-sum game, diplomacy has little chance of thriving. Otherwise what we might experience in the coming years will likely be a protracted dispute that will eventually become a hot political piece of cake potent of determining electoral outcomes in either country.George A Mhangonoreply@blogger.com
